Low fluid in oil reservoir/Leak. Loose connection.
Input and output seal leak.
Pump leaks.
 
Check steering system connection – Bleed the system.
Replace steering – Bleed the system.
Replace pump – Bleed the system.
Foaming or milky steering fluid. Loose connection.
Fluid.
Check steering system connection.
Internal pump leakage. Replace steering pump – Bleed the system.
 
PROBLEM CAUSE REMEDY
 
Power Steering Pump

Noisy pump.

Low on fluid.
Sucking air-oil foaming.
Return flow too low.
Growling noise.
Rattling noise.

Add fluid and check steering system connection-Bleed the system.
Check steering system connection-Bleed the system.
Replace steering pump-Bleed the system.
Check restriction in steering hose.
Check pump mounting bracket, contact between pressure hose and chassis or other parts.
 
No Pressure. Jam pressure relief valve.
Pressure relief valve stuck.
Pressure relief valve clogged.
 
Remove, clean and ensure pressure relief valve smooth movement. Bleed the system.
Realign pressure relief valve shim at end cap.
Remove foreign particle(s) – Bleed the system.
Pressure too low/too high. V-Belt tension too loose.
Pressure relief valve clogged.
Wrong pressure setting.
Adjust belt tension.
Replace pump. Bleed the system.
Remove foreign particle(s) – Bleed the system.
 
Flow rate too high/too low. V-Belt tension too loose.
Worn cam ring.
Clogged orifice.
Adjust belt tension.
Replace pump. Bleed the system.
Remove foreign particle(s) – Bleed the system.
